Staff Developer Marketing Manager, AI
Meta
Josh Walters is a Staff Developer Marketing Manager at Meta, where he leads developer marketing initiatives across AI and emerging technologies. Before Meta, he led AI developer marketing and field programs at Intel and AWS. His work sits at the intersection of marketing, DevRel, and product - building strategies that help developers move from “this looks interesting” to “I can actually build with this.” He focuses on creating authentic dev-to-dev engagement that connects builders with the people, tools, and products they need to solve real problems. Fun Facts: Josh and his wife are both twins, and spend most of their free time in South Lake Tahoe with their two golden retrievers - usually somewhere outdoors or pretending they’re going to unplug from technology.

Building a DevRel and developer marketing function that doesn't duplicate effort
In most organisations, devrel and developer marketing have evolved independently - different reporting lines, different metrics, different definitions of what success looks like. The result is teams that are nominally working toward the same goal but are, in practice, producing overlapping content, attending the same events, and having the same conversations with the same developers without any real coordination. It's inefficient, it's visible to the developers caught in the middle, and it's fixable. Key learnings: - How to map where devrel and developer marketing genuinely overlap versus where they should own distinct territory - What shared goals, metrics, and planning cycles look like in teams that have gotten this right - How to structure the relationship between both functions without creating a hierarchy that undermines either one
